New pump

Yep. Had to swap pumps. It was a bit of an odd conversion as the hoses on the new pump are much smaller than the old one. That said, we were able to get 2 solid hours of salt to chlorine flow out of it with no flow problems. So that should take care of that - for now.

None of this stops the kids from going in the pool already. Even the 289 degree K water temperature (16 C) doesn't faze them.

low flow woes

I’ve been having trouble with the salt chlorinator for the pool. Or to be more precise, with the filter pump having too low a flow for the salt chlorinator. I’ve cleaned it out a few times and it works fine for a bit but ultimately it starts beeping at me. When it does work I get a nice stream of bubbles coming from it.

I might just end up having to change it out for a new pump to see if that helps. I'm working on it again tonight so we'll see.

Long Weekend - recap

The pool was filled, the filter hooked up, and salt added. We are switching from chlorine to salt this year and set up the connection.

No fire but barbequing done.

We saw friends at Keycon, visited the dealers’ room – I was the only one who managed to not buy anything.

We also managed to watch a lot of TV. We cleared up a bit of space on the PVR and maintained it over the weekend.

I didn’t do any work on the figures but did manage to read through most of the codices I had won.

It was a nice relaxing weekend. It felt very much like being on a holiday.

Checklist

It was a busy weekend. I actually managed to get a few of the summer chores crossed off of my list.

- I changed the drain in the kitchen sink to fix the leak. I had fixed both of them before but one side started leaking because the two drains had different sized bottoms. This caused the connecting drain pipe to not make a proper seal. This was hard to take off – had to resort to the dremel to cut the locking ring.

- We got the pool inflated, filled, and the filter ready for a new season.

- I tried to fix the handle on the stove but was only able to remove 2 of the 5 screws on the inside of the door. The other two were completely stripped. After fiddling with trying to tighten the screws through the gap available, Shan just said to remove it. We need to update it anyways – it has the wired elements and the one large one is only half working.

- I fixed the hinge on the back gate, and changed the diagonal brace. Since finding out we had put the brace on the wrong way (thanks to watching the Handyman Challenge), it had been bothering me. Changing the brace means we now have to paint the gate again though so that still leaves another on the list.

- I also changed the screen in the side door. I had the screen, spline, and roller tool for a while but finally had the time to do it. This should help before the mosquitoes get too bad. I still have a few windows to fix before I can cross this off completely but the side door was ripped the worst.

Keycon

I was off Thursday as I had worked the previous Saturday - my job's like that. I'm off this week, so I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get in here.

I've already crossed off two chores from my list for holidays. I finished turning over the garden for the wife, and I finished getting the pool ready. When we moved into the house a few years ago, there was a 16'x30' aboveground pool in the back yard. It was old when we moved in - I had to patch it every year. Last year it finally gave up. I had to dig it out (that was a fun couple of weeks) and we put in an inflatable 18' round pool. We've been filling it for the year and I finally finished hooking up the filter again. Now we just need the weather to warm up again.

We popped into Keycon this afternoon. Keycon is the local Science Fiction convention. I'll muse more about it at a later date. We saw JP and Jamie, as well as the Barnsons. We also ran into a few old faces. We didn't get memberships again this year but the dealer's room is open to all. We narrowly avoided picking up some games, but picked up some books.
