While I didn’t achieve many of the goals I left last year, I do feel better about my Heroclix collection. I did get a few packages to start filling some of the gaps in my sets and picked up a few of the LE/single-figure-box sets as well as kept up with the starters and Fast Forces sets. I didn’t pick up any bricks but did get a brick of Batman:Streets of Gotham as well as a few boosters for Christmas. I did manage to complete one set – Justice League. I also picked up most of the Batman Alpha sub set, including the Target exclusive figure, now only needing 4 more to complete it.
In addition to the 4 regular sets that they published, and the single-figure-box sets that went with them, they also churned out another 5 mini-sets as well as eight starters/Fast Forces sets to go with them. That’s too much. Even if I had dedicated much more resources to keeping up I still would be behind.
I’m still close on Ultimates (6+7), Mutant Mayhem (3+7), Legacy (6+11), Fantastic Forces (0+2), Armor Wars (11+1), Collateral Damage (8+0), Supernova (6+0), Origin (9+0), Avengers (0/3), Mutations & Monsters (1/5), Crisis (0/10), Secret Invasion (2/6), Arkham Asylum (0/6), Hammer of Thor (3/8), Brave and Bold (8/7), and Web of Spider-Man (9/11). I’m still working away at Sinister (14+2), DC 75 (33/11), Avengers Movie (17/18), Chaos Wars (38/9), DC 10th (18/0), Marvel 10th (18/0), Batman (47/11/5), and Batman:Streets of Gotham (26/15/3). I still haven’t picked up any of Giant-Size X-Men (45/13/6), Captain America (47/11), Incredible Hulk (36/10), Galactic Guardians (36/10/6), The Dark Knight Rises (29/0), and The New 52 – Justice League (21/0).
Right now, I need 760 figures – 561 REVs and 199 U/SRs. This is almost as many as when I started keeping numbers – back in April of 2007. Any brick purchased would have brought both of these much closer. Counting figures by Wizkids or Neca – 126/634 compared to last year’s number of 155/258 you can see that I made a little progress towards the old figures and see the amount of new figures churned out this year.
I kept up with the starters/Fast Forces sets – managing to find the ones I had missed so all of those are current.
On the large figure side, I still need the Spectre, two Fooms, and both of the Phoenixes as well as the original Manhattan and Galactus. I even picked up some of the maps but still need most of the new maps – although I did get the Helicarrier maps.
That one last LE from Horrorclix still evades me. I’m going to put a bit more effort into finishing that off. I’ve still been looking for another another map from the Cthulhu set.
I’ve got that last ARC-170 to get to ‘complete’ what I want from Star Wars minis. I’ll probably try and get some more Monsterpocalypse figures. I still have to look out for the Voltron set. I am also hoping to fill in the gaps in my Cheapass games as well as pick up a few new games. This will cut into my ‘Heroclix budget’ for 2013.
I’m going to try and keep up with the Fast Forces/starters as well as some of the smaller sets. I’ll try to pick up some of the previous sets as well as some of the figures needed to work at finishing the older sets. I’m hoping to complete at least two more sets as well as keeping the number of figures to under 1000. I'd like to see the number of pre-Neca figures be under 100.

Heroclix etc overview
While I did pick up a few Heroclix last year, and picked up a brick of two of the three sets released – Brave and the Bold and Web of Spider-Man, I haven’t yet picked up a brick of DC 75. I do like the DC characters – it just seems that if I pass on a brick, it seems to be a DC one. I did also pick up the Watchmen set – also a DC.
I finished no Heroclix sets. I’m a bit closer but basically where I was last year – even a bit behind due to the new sets.
I’m still close on Ultimates (6+7), Mutant Mayhem (3+9), Legacy (6+11), Fantastic Forces (0+2), Armor Wars (11+1), Collateral Damage (8+1), Supernova (9+0), Avengers (0/3), Justice League (0/3), Mutations & Monsters (1/5), Crisis (0/11), Secret Invasion (2/6), Arkham Asylum (0/6), Hammer of Thor (3/8), Brave and Bold (8/7), and Web of Spider-Man (9/11). I’m still working away at Sinister (18+3) and Origin (23+0). I’m still deciding if I’ll pick up a brick of the last set otherwise I have DC 75 (33/11).
Right now, I need 245 figures – 140 REVs and 105 U/SRs. This is over the 200 figures I was hoping to stay under and for the first time since 2008 I am over 100 Uniques/Super Rares. A brick would have brought both of these closer.
I didn’t manage to pick up any more big figures, but have Dr Manhattan on order for spring. I am not sure how many sets are coming out this year. I hope to keep up with the sets, ending the year back under 200 figures and getting the Uniques/Super Rares back under 100 figures. I’m still hoping to get the Spectre, one of the Fooms and maybe a Phoenix as well as at least one Manhattan.
On Horrorclix, I finally got the last regular figure I needed to come my basic sets. I only need 1 LE and would like another map from the Cthulhu set. I easily achieved my goal there and would like to finish these off and put them behind me.
Where did I spend my money instead of Heroclix? I added a few more sets to the Starship Troopers miniature, finished the first two sets of Monsterpocalypse, and am now down to only 1 extra figure on Star Wars Miniature Battles. I also got back into 40K, picking up 33 codices including the Sisters of Battle rules from the second edition. I also got Armageddon, Cityfight, and Eye of Terror from third edition. Also, I bought a lot of bits – both a horde of Orks and started getting my Tyranids back up to a viable level.
I hope to get more Tyranids, and more codices – being caught up on the rest of the fourth editions I am missing. I also plan to get the Babylon 5 Call to Arms books and some of the Starship Troopers RPG books I am missing. I want to get that final ARC-170 from the Star Wars Miniature Battles figure as well as the Power of the Force Luke’s Snowspeeder. I might even get a bunch of Snowtroopers and Hoth Troopers. I also want to get the All Your Base set from Monsterpocalypse and maybe even a few more of Monsterpocalypse Now. I’m definitely picking up the Voltron set.
As well, I am thinking about picking up the FASA rules and books to Crimson Skies. While these will cut into my budget, I still hope to peg away at the older Heroclix sets and maybe even grab a few more big figures – especially if I have a game room to display them.

Welcome to my Nightmare
Finished! I finally got the last regular figure to complete my Horrorclix sets. I won a Zombie Dorothy from the Nightmares set and it finally came in the mail yesterday.
I do still need a Billy Stank LE from Freakshow and I still want to pick up another Starter set but aside from that, I am done!
Unless they make more.

Heroclix overview
Instead of focusing on Heroclix last year, I worked away at a few other systems – Starship Troopers, Monsterapocalypse, and Horrorclix. So I didn’t get as much filled in as I had hoped. Plus, one of my best sellers on ebay became flakey about halfway through the year. Still, I did meet some of last year’s goals.
I only managed to finish off one set – finally getting the Magog I needed to complete Unleashed. I’m still close on Ultimates (6+7), Mutant Mayhem (3+9), Legacy (6+11), Fantastic Forces (0+3), Armor Wars (11+1), Collateral Damage (8+1), Supernova (10+0), Avengers (0/3), Justice League (0/7), Mutations & Monsters (1/6), Crisis (0/12), Secret Invasion (2/7) and Arkham Asylum (0/8). I’m still working away at Sinister (21+3) and Origin (23+0). A new set finally came out in November and I picked up a brick and have a good amount of Hammer of Thor (11+8). Right now, I need 188 figures – 102 REVs and 86 U/SRs.
I didn’t manage to pick up any more big figures, but did get Thor’s Mighty Chariot when it came out last September. They are planning to release 3 more sets this year. I hope to keep up with the sets, ending the year still under 200 figures and keeping the Uniques/Super Rares under 100 figures. I’m still hoping to get the Spectre, one of the Fooms and maybe a Phoenix.
On Horrorclix, I greatly exceeded my goals. I completed the base set and Freakshow
(I just need one card). I only need 1 figure from The Lab and 3 figures from Nightmares plus 1 LE. I’m hoping to either be down to the 1 SR from Nightmares that I need or even finish the entire set.

Big box of Horrorclix Love
I had bought a case of Horrorclix Freakshow and it came this week. I was very happy with the mix – I managed to get an entire set from the 4 bricks contained within the case. This also included two of the pricy Templars as well as two of the Wacko Jackos. I got a full set of the Plot Twists and am only two cards from a second complete set. The only downside is that the three experienced Killer Clowns I got all came with rookie cards instead. This brings my Horrorclix total down to 4 figures and only 2 LEs needed to finish the entire set. I am quite pleased.

Heroclix - 2009 goal
Even though our dollar faded near the end of the year, I was still able to make great progress at filling in my Heroclix sets. I added Infinity Challenge, Clobbering Time, Indy, and Critical Mass to the completed sets. I’m now close on Unleashed (0+1), Ultimates (9+7), Mutant Mayhem (4+9), Legacy (9+11), Fantastic Forces (3+4), Armor Wars (17+1), Collateral Damage (10+1), Supernova (12+0), Avengers (0/4), Justice League (0/7), Mutations & Monsters (1/6), Crisis (0/12), and Secret Invasion (3/7). I’m still working away at Sinister (27+3), Origin (23+2), and Arkham Asylum (34/12).
I have the 2007 Galactus, the Starro, and the ComicCon Fin Fan Foom.
Right now, I still need 239 figures – 152 REVs and 87 U/SRs. This easily clears my goal for last year.
With the future of Heroclix up in the air right now, I’ll set my goals modestly for this year – not knowing how many new sets will be released (between 0 and 4). By the end of the year, I want to be under 150 to 200 figures (depending on if any new sets get released) keeping the Uniques/Super Rares under 100. I’d like to get the Spectre, one of the Phoenix’s, as well as at least another of the Fooms.
With no new Horrorclix sets coming out, I’d like to finish at least the base set and The Lab and get some of Freakshow and Nightmares. I’m at 170 figures right now – I’d like that to be under 100 by next year.

Wizkids no more?
According to their website, Topps, the parent owners of Wizkids, is closing Wizkids.
It sounds like they will be trying to find a home for Heroclix and one other property (Star Wars or Pirates?) and the others may just drop off.
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/wk_article.asp?cid=41914
We'll have to see what kind of an effect this has on my finishing sets. So far, I had been making good progress.
This does leave Horrorclix, MechWarrior, and the others in a bit of a lurch though - similar to Crimson Skies.
We'll have to see where things end up.

Horrorclix – sets only
With the success of the Heroclix line (and Mage Knight before it), Wizkids had spilled off their clix idea to MechWarrior, and Crimson Skies. They also came out with a horror themed line called Horrorclix.
I picked up the first two expansions, HorrorClix and The Lab but didn’t get and Freakshow yet. They came out with another expansion, Nightmare, but it sounds like they will not be making more expansions but that any new products they do come out with will just be the small licensed packs – like the Aliens VS Predator, Hellboy, or the Freddy VS Jason pack.
In some ways I’ll be sad to see the line end – but it will make it easier to catch up with the figures.

Cthulhu mine!
I finally got my first big convention figure. I picked up the Heroclix Cthulhu from Max on Friday. It had been opened and the map has been laminated, but it looks very nice. They say that once you connect the wings you can’t take them off but I was able to without much trouble. This way he fits back in the box a bit better. I have to go back and get the rest of the cultist pogs that come with the set (24 seemed like so many).
They had a Wizkids convention weekend deal, where those of us who can’t get to the conventions can pick up some of the cool promo figures. I missed the Fooms for $100, but was able to get convention Thor, and Batman, as well as another convention map and another Vlad. He even threw in a few of the Pirates packs.
I also picked up a two of the Horrorclix Lab pack that he had on sale for $5 each. Out of the 8 figures, I got a Veteran Candy Striper and a Unique Mi-Go that I needed. Since the Avatar of Cthulhu was the last Unique I got from the basic set, I was very happy to see the Mi-Go from this one. Especially since he consistently seems to be going for the upper teens to low twenties on ebay.

another year older
My birthday was nice and quiet. I had the day off so I spent it driving around with my daughter looking for 1:72 WW1 models to use for Canvas Eagles.
We went to Cellar Dweller to get the summer issue of Robot and check out the models.
Then we went to a cowboy boot place to see if they had a girth belt I could use for Boba's belt - no luck there, and it caused my daughter quite some trauma that we didn't buy her cowboy boots.
From there we picked up my birthday cake at Jeannes. Mmmm - always love Jeannes cake.
We popped into the Western Canada Airport Museum. They had nothing in 1:72 scale but did have a nice set of planes by NewRay in 1:48 at $10 each. I'll keep it in mind if I can't find anything better.
Michael's had a few models but all in WW2. That was all we had time for that day.
We went to Pizza Hut for supper. Mmmm - pan pizza.
For gifts, I got some movies - Catwoman, and the January Man, some Horrorclix and Heroclix boosters, and the Connor MacLeod vs Kurgan figure set that made it to the top of my list ever since I found it while searching around on ebay. I got a Giant Amoeba and, to my surpise, one of the Origins chase figures - the Wizard Shazam! A very nice haul indeed.
Yesterday, I shopped around a bit more before work. Walmart had the NewRay planes for $5 - but they only had the WW2 ones. Toys R Us was fruitless, and Gooches had none of the WW1 planes but could order some in.
I also found out about a place that might be able to help, Spare Time Hobbies, out near Kildonan Place. Their web site makes them seem like they should be useful. I'll try and check them out tonight.

It always rains on composter day
Raining again today. We picked up another Earth Machine. Every year, around this time, the city cuts a deal with the company to sell them for $25 - supposedly they have an otherwise retail value of $85 - not that I've ever seen them on sale any other time. We had bought one about 5 years ago - after we had moved here from our old place. There we had two wooden boxes - one for leaves and one for compost. The one for leaves is holding up well but the other wooden composter is going to be replaced by the new plastic one. We also picked up an aerator and a kitchen pail. I was turning them sporadically before with an old pitchfork but, now that we have two, figured we splurge for the aerator.
Friday I had gotten a Reaper of Souls in the mail. I had bought one before from ebay - but the seller flaked. Now the only unique left from the first set that I am missing is the Avatar of Cthulhu.
I had taken the car in on Thursday to get the muffler fixed. It needed the tailpipe and the exhaust pipe as well. A little over $300 when all done but that's one less problem with it now. I had finished reading the Survivor book by Mark Burnett - we've followed each season since the beginning so it was kind of neat to hear some of the back story. It was a quick read but could have used a few labels on some of the pictures as it has been a while and not all the Survivors were familiar.
I also finished the Planet Simpson book as well. It was interesting but not nearly as quick a read. We took them back to the library. I had to drop them through the slot as our library had moved to summer hours - where they are no longer open on Saturdays as well as being closed on Sundays.
Yesterday I was able to put a good couple of hours work on the room. I didn't get nearly as deep as I had hoped for my break, but was able to sift a few things around and clear up significant portion of the working area. Today, I'm going to try and get into the closet (filled with model kits) and see if I can sort then down a bit better.

ebay goodness
My second day and I'm still at this. Last night I got two packages from ebay - Heroclix maps and Horrorclix LEs.
I got the Heroclix maps for The Junkyard (Collateral Damage) and The Lab (Armor Wars). I've been into Heroclix from the beginning and was even a Judge for a while but, due to time, dropped out for a while around the time of Ultimates/Mutant Mayhem. I'm slowly trying to fill in the gaps in my collection. I now have all the maps except the 2007 Convention map.
I got into Horrorclix from the start - it's actually got me back into Heroclix. I don't have anyone to play it with yet but remain hopefull. Plus, it's getting me back into making terrain. I'm missing the LEs from the first set but now have the LEs from the Lab. I need 17 REVs and 2 Unique (1 on way) from the 1st set and 42 REVs and 8 Uniques from the Lab.
From Heroclix, I have completed the sets for Xplosion and Cosmic Justice. I'm close on Infinity Challenge (5+0), Hypertime (1+1), Clobbering Time (1+2), Indy (2(+6)+4), Critical Mass (1+1), and Unleashed (2+1). I'm finishing my Icons (25+0) and Supernova (28+5) sets and filling in Ultimates (74+10) and Mutant Mayhem (61+13) sets. I dont't have much in the way for Legacy, Fantastic Forces, Armor Wars, Collateral Damage, Sinister, or Origin.
I have a few more packages en route. I'll let you know how I'm doing from time to time.

I dont't have much in the way for Legacy, Fantastic Forces, Armor Wars, Collateral Damage, Sinister, or Origin.
I have a few more packages en route. I'll let you know how I'm doing from time to time.
